INTERNSHIP
Currently
I had an internship for the summer 2018 semester at the University Press of Florida(UPF). UPF is the official publisher for the State University System. Founded in 1945 they have published over 2,500 titles and have 100 new releases each year. The IT department where I interned at is on a segment of UF's network and consists of 30 workstations, multiple network devices such as printers and scanners, and 5 virtual machines to run their services.
My duties for the internship were focused mostly on desktop support but did have some elements of higher level network tasks as well.
My tasks included:
-
End user support for workstations
-
Re-imaging workstations to prep for deployment as workstation
-
Deploying workstations for new users
-
Creating documentation for future interns on re-imaging a workstation
-
Configuring content controls on Microsoft Word
-
Researching settings and configuring a dot matrix printer
-
Creating users in active directory
-
Printer deployment and network set up
-
Data gathering on their in-house software for compiling monthly reports
Overall this internship was invaluable, I received a glimpse into what it is like to work in a professional setting in this field. I enjoyed learning about the press, how it operates, and how books are made. In this environment I worked directly alongside the network administrator and it was quite insightful to see what goes in to the day to day of that kind of job.
